How to Pamper Yourself in the New Year

Posted by Charlotte Wilson on

Due to the ever-changing status of the world, we all could use a little pampering—now more than ever. With every change that happens, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and as if things are spiraling out of control. Feeling this way is never fun for anyone and can lead to numerous mental health problems.

That’s why it’s crucial to set aside time to treat yourself. Because if you don’t, then who will? Here are a few tips to help you start pampering yourself in 2022.

Have a “me” day

A “me” day can help you set aside time to do things you wouldn’t otherwise do. Pampering yourself during your “me” day can include many different activities. To begin, start easy with something like sleeping in on that day.

Not adhering to a schedule and catching up on some quality sleep can easily be considered pampering—especially for certain groups: busy parents, people with multiple jobs, healthcare workers, etc. A good night’s rest can help you feel rejuvenated and help you wake up in a more positive mood in the morning.

Another self-care activity you can try is a self-massage. Due to the things going on at the moment, you may not feel comfortable going out for a professional massage, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. You can give yourself one by using your hands to gently massage areas that you can reach. For areas harder to reach or that need a little more pressure, you can use a tennis ball or foam roller for assistance.

It isn't just your body that benefits from massage, your face, neck and décolletage  are often a forgotten area when it comes to massage therapy. Pair your favourite face oil with a Gua Sha facial massage tool. The Gua Sha massage technique will encourage lymphatic drainage and improve blood circulation for a brighter complexion.

Increase relaxation and minimize stress

While minimizing stress is easier said than done, it’s still worth putting in some effort towards fixing things. Stress can cause various physical and mental health problems if not dealt with promptly, which is why relaxation techniques are essential for your daily routine.

Aromatherapy is a wonderful option for people who want to increase relaxation with minimal effort. It doesn’t require too much but has a lot of benefits. You can practice aromatherapy in a couple of different ways.

You can go the classic essential oil diffuser route, or you can incorporate it into your shower routine instead for a more immersive experience. An aromatherapy shower steamer will release oils to help you relax, destress, and unwind after a tough day. Baths are a great addition too. Get some warm water going, drop a bath bomb in your tub, and feel the stress melt away.

If you want to get out of your house while prompting relaxation, taking a drive is another good option— weather permitting, of course. Get into your car and drive. It can be to a place that you’ve always loved, or you can just drive with no destination in mind. It’s been found that driving (if treated as a leisurely activity) can help you to destress.

Prioritize looking and feeling good

Do not underestimate the power of feeling great inside out. Hair, skin, and nails are often linked to self-esteem, so you want to take care of them. And in 2022, we’re all about being self-confident. So spoil yourself with a confidence boost by giving a little TLC to these areas.

Your hair is one of the more simple places to begin. Make sure you have a hydrating deep conditioner, moisturizing hair oil, and get a trim if needed. These three tips should help to promote hair growth and a healthy scalp. Healthy hair tends to look better, so you should promote health over everything else.

For your skin, optimizing your routine is key. Find products that work for your skin type and help you feel glowy and radiant. Incorporate this into your self-care routine by using face masks to amp things up. Face masks can improve skin health and help you unwind after a long day. Don't forget the rest of your body either. Remember to keep your body hydrated and soft with body oil and body scrub. You won't regret it!

Nails are next. This can mean going to the salon, giving yourself a manicure at home, or simply swiping some nail strengthener over them. Whatever you decide to do, pamper your nails as you would other parts of your body.

If improving your hair, skin, and nails doesn't make things better, you may want to set up an appointment with your dermatologist. The doctor will determine the cause of your problems as they can stem from stress and other conditions like alopecia or cystic acne. If this is true, they may suggest a hair growth solution like Minoxidil or acne treatment like Accutane.

Eat without remorse

For some, a good meal equals a good day. If you’re an individual whose happiness is gained through good food, then indulge in your favorites.

Maybe you’ve been meal prepping and eating the same thing for a week straight, or following a certain diet. Whatever it may be, it’s okay to deviate from the normal and occasionally indulge in foods that you love without guilt!

Eating without remorse doesn’t necessarily equal unhealthy eating either. You can still maintain your health goals while ditching your norm. Meaning, if you don’t always make your famous garlic parmesan brussel sprouts or buffalo cauliflower bites, then go ahead and do so.

If you don’t want to cook or cook too often, there’s always the option of getting food from your favorite restaurant too. That’s even more pampering as you don’t have to cook it yourself.

Do what you like

Whether you’re doing it consciously or not, sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the opinions of others. From the type of workouts you do to the kinds of foods you eat, someone will always have an opinion. It could be on social media or from people close to you, but either way, it gets exhausting listening to what people think you should or shouldn’t be doing with your life.

That’s why more often than not, you just have to do what you want to do, regardless of anyone else's thoughts on the matter. Doing what you like is a form of self-care that sometimes gets overlooked, as changes within your mindset are not as obvious as buying yourself something nice.

However, bypassing the opinions of others can help you put your needs first and do things that make you happy. So, prioritize yourself, and your body and mind will thank you!
